Fanfare ‘Korps Nationale Reserve’

De Fanfare ‘Korps Nationale Reserve’ (FKNR) is één van de vier militaire orkesten van de Koninklijke Landmacht. De FKNR bestaat uit ruim 50 musici die naast de functie van militair muzikant ook een civiele baan hebben. Op 1 november 2022 bestaat de FKNR 35 jaar. De dirigent van de FKNR is kapitein Alfred Willering.

De FKNR is in 1987 opgericht als drumkorps. Dit werd later uitgebreid tot een drumfanfare en vervolgens omgevormd tot een fanfare. De FKNR treedt voornamelijk op tijdens ceremoniële gebeurtenissen van het Ministerie van Defensie en in het bijzonder bij activiteiten van het Korps Nationale Reserve. Ook is de FKNR onder andere jaarlijks te zien tijdens Prinsjesdag en Veteranendag. Daarnaast geeft de FKNR concerten, zoals het jaarlijkse Korpsconcert, de anjerconcerten en relatieconcerten. De musici van de FKNR zijn reservisten bij de Nationale Reserve. Zij hebben een deeltijd militaire functie naast studie of baan in de burgermaatschappij. De thuisbasis van de FKNR is de Berhardkazerne in Amersfoort.

Ensembles
De musici van de FKNR zijn ook inzetbaar in kleinere samenstellingen. Zo is er een koperensemble, koperkwintet en een saxofoonensemble dat voornamelijk optreedt tijdens kleine militaire ceremonies, recepties, officiële ontvangsten, herdenkingen en begrafenissen. Daarnaast heeft de FKNR een combo dat speelt tijdens officiële recepties en diners binnen de Defensieorganisatie.

Dirigent Alfred Willering
Sinds begin 2018 is Alfred Willering de dirigent van de FKNR. Kapitein Willering studeerde bastuba en directie aan het ArtEZ Conservatorium in Zwolle. In 2001 in de richting HaFaBra-directie.
Gedurende zijn opleiding was Willering naast de studie al actief op diverse muzikale fronten. Samen met enkele medestudenten speelde hij in het ensemble Riverbrass en als bassist was Willering in dienst bij het Trompetterkorps Bereden Wapens (nu Fanfare ‘Bereden Wapens’). Willering speelde hierna nog bij Fanfare Korps Koninklijke Landmacht- Bereden Wapens, bij de toenmalige Drumfanfare van de Koninklijke Luchtmacht en bij de Regimentsfanfare ‘Garde Grenadiers en Jagers’. Ook is hij als dirigent werkzaam geweest bij diverse amateurorkesten zoals Fanfare Korps Voorst, Harmonie Crescendo Gramsbergen en het Drents Jeugd Orkest.

The Fanfare Band of the National Reserve Corps (in Dutch: Fanfare Korps Nationale Reserve, FKNR) is one of the four Military Bands of the Royal Netherlands Army. A Fanfare Band is a typical Dutch kind of band with the instrumentation of a Brass Band, but then supplemented with flugelhorns and saxophones. The FKNR consists of more than 50 musicians with a thorough musical education. In addition to their job as a military musician they also have a civilian job. The conductor of the FKNR is Captain Alfred Willering.

The FKNR was founded in 1987 as a Drum Corps. This was later expanded to a Marching Band and then transformed into a Fanfare Band. The home base of the FKNR is Amersfoort, in the centre of the Netherlands. The orchestra mainly performs during activities of the National Reserve Corps, the Royal Netherlands Army and the Dutch Ministry of Defence. In addition to performing traditional military music, such as military marches and music written for Fanfare Band, the FKNR is capable of playing more modern pop song arrangements and contemporary music.

Ensembles
Besides the Fanfare Band, the FKNR has various small ensembles that play during small military ceremonies and special occasions. The brass ensemble for instance, performs at commemorations and funerals. The FKNR combo performs popular music from all kinds of genres and plays during official receptions and dinners. Also, the FKNR has a recently expanded and very professional drum group.

Conductor Alfred Willering
Since the beginning of 2018, Alfred Willering has been the conductor of the FKNR. Captain Willering studied tuba and conducting at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle, graduating in 2001 with a degree in HaFaBra conducting. During his studies, Willering was already active in various musical arenas. Together with some fellow students, he played in the ensemble Riverbrass, and as a tuba player, Willering was a member of the Trompetterkorps Bereden Wapens (now Fanfare ‘Bereden Wapens’). After that, Willering played with the Fanfare Corps of the Royal Netherlands Army Mounted Arms, the former Drumfanfare of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, and the Regimentsfanfare ‘Garde Grenadiers en Jagers’. He has also worked as a conductor with various amateur orchestras such as the Fanfare Corps Voorst, Harmonie Crescendo Gramsbergen, and the Drents Youth Orchestra.
